CMCI Researchers publish “A Modern Guide to Creative Economies”

Prof Roberta Comunian and Prof Nick Wilson at CMCI, with international collaborators, have curated a collection of 16 chapters within a new Edward Elgar edited collection entitled ““A Modern Guide to Creative Economies”.

The book brings together a series of new perspectives and reflections on creative economies; this insightful Modern Guide expands and challenges current knowledge in the field. Interdisciplinary in scope, it features a broad range of contributions from both leading and emerging scholars, which provide innovative, critical research into a wide range of disciplines, including arts and cultural management, cultural policy, cultural sociology, economics, entrepreneurship, management and business studies, geography, humanities, and media studies.

Alongside chapters from other international scholars, there are many contributions from across CMCI: PhD student Manfredi de Bernard (with Prof Comunian) reflects “On GIS and the creative economy: opportunities and challenges”; Dr Lauren England discusses “Crafting professionals: exploring the spatial and social mediation of professional networks in craft higher education”; Dr Silvie Jacobi, formed CMCI PhD, explores “Emerging spatial relations of artists and art scenes through the lens of art schools in Manchester and Leipzig”; Dr Jonathan Gross writes “Growth of what? New narratives for the creative economy, beyond GD”; Dr Tamsyn Dent presents “Inclusive solidarity: emerging forms of resistance within the UK creative economy; and finally Prof Nick Wilson concludes with “What is the creative economy – really?”.
