Memory continues to be a research strength within CMCI, with our academics in demand in the universities and beyond. Our Dr Jessica Rapson was invited by the Embassy of Romania in London to speak at their conference on holocaust education: “Remembrance, Retrospection, Responsibility”, which was co-organized with University College London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies.
The event was part of the agenda promoted by the Romanian Chairmanship of the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance). Our picture shows Jessica speaking as part of the panel on “Killing Sites: Not Here, Not Now, Why Should We Care?”, giving a paper on “Commemorating Sites of Nazi Mass Murder: the Ukrainian Case – and Beyond.”
Also speaking were Alex Maws, Head of Education at the Holocaust Educational Trust, Andrei Moraru, adviser to the President of Romania on matters related with civil society, and Sir Eric Pickles, Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust issues.
