New Date for London-Rio Event

Rio 2

There’s a new date for the London-Rio event previously announced on the CMCI Blog. This will now take place one day later than originally planned: It will now happen on Friday 27 May.

This is the event staged by CMCI Senior Lecturer Dr Ruth Adams to examine issues of society, culture and identity in London and Rio -with a particular emphasis on the post-colonial cultures of each city.

She will be joined fellow academics (including recent CMCI PhD graduate Dr Nicole Ferdinand), policy makers, community representatives and cultural practitioners from the UK and Brazil.

Comparing and contrasting British and Brazilian contexts, the event will explore questions of hybridity and transnationalism, socioeconomic inequality, public space, the relationship between state and community, and emergent tensions and opportunities.  Specific themes will include popular and participatory music cultures, literature, sport, fashion, youth cultures, and the enduring significance of the local in the era of globalization.

For more details and ticket information, go to: The event is free to attend, but please reserve a ticket on Eventbrite. It will take place here at King’s on 27 May 2016, from 9am to 6pm.
