CMCI academics Dr Hye-Kyung Lee and Dr Richard Howells were guests at a “provocation” event on “The Future of the Arts: Are Cuts the Greatest Threat?” held at the British Library. The keynote speaker was the BBC’s Economics Editor Robert Peston, who argued that that had been a crucial “category error” in attempting to define the value of the arts by their contribution to the economy.
Other panellists included Alan Davey, Chief Executive of the Arts Council and former director of the Confederation of British Industry Sir Richard Lambert. The event was organised by the Warwick Commission on the future of cultural value.
