Professor Andy Pratt was in Berlin this week (4 July) promoting CMCI’s international reputation. He gave a lecture on the changing role of culture, and its new (and old) role in the transformation of cities. Two responses were provided; first by Professor Ricky Burdett, Director of LSE Cities, who was Chief Adviser on Architecture and Urbanism for the London Olympics, who spoke about the challenge of sustainably planning mega events; and second, by Dr Alain Thierstein (TU Munich) who spoke about the related development of the knowledge economy.
The event was hosted by the Berlin Akademie De Kunste in their headquarters in Pariser Platz (the square which contains the Brandenberg Gate). The lecture was one of a series that is being curated for the Akademie by Professor Wilfied Wang of the University of Texas. The picture below shows Wilfried, Ricky and Andy, on the balcony of the Akademie overlooking the Brandenberg Gate and the Bundestag. A transcript of the event will be published in a catalogue that Professor Wang is writing to accompany the series six lectures, of which this is one.
