Professor Andy Pratt is on the board of a new research network, the Association for Urban Creativity (AUC). This network is associated with the journal Cities, Culture and Society (Andy is a member of the editorial board of CSS). The AUC and CSS has been driven by the initiative by Professor Masayuki Sasaki from Osaka University. The AUC held their first international conference in Paris at the Observatoire Sociologique du Changement in the Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) on July 6th.
In attendance there were participants from the US, Japan, and across Europe and South Africa discussing themes ranging from the role of the creative industries in cities, to culture and social exclusion. Andy gave a paper on urban development and recent growth of the creative industries.
Other speakers included Elsa Vivant who was a visitor at CMCI earlier this year. The meeting was addressed by Christian Manhart, the Chief of the Museum and Creativity section at UNESCO (who is responsible for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network).
