The future of the creative industries in Spain and Portugal

Professor Andy Pratt gave a keynote presentation at an International Conference “The creative industries keys for future: analysis and perspectives” on 23 and 24 February 2012, in the cities of Santiago de Compostela and Guimarães (European Capital of Culture 2012). The event launched a new cultural report for the Galicia/ Norte de Portugal euro-region:
Santiago de Compostela was European Capital of culture in 2000; both cities are UNESCO world heritage sites. The Santiago de Compostela leg of the event took place in the stunning new ‘Cuidad da cultura’ building (see picture).
Andy visited the University of Santiago de Compostela as well, and later met with colleagues at the Foundacao Serralves (a leading contemporary art gallery) in Porto. (
Andy has had links with Portugal since 2007 when he was invited to give one the prestigious ‘State of the world’ lectures for the 50th anniversary of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (other lectures were by Homi Bhabha, Paul Gilroy, Bernard Stiegler and Daniel Miller).
