Andy Pratt participated in a Regional Training Seminar supported by
the Creative Industries Section of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, The European Union, and the International Trade Commission. The meeting took place in St Lucia (March 29-31). The objectives of the seminar were to strengthen the capacity of national and regional statistical offices to collect, analyze and disseminate economic data on creative industries sector; to increase awareness among policy makers and development partners on the extent and specificity of the sector’s data related challenges.
Andy gave two presentations based upon the academic and policy work that he has done on the conceptualisation and measurement of the creative industries. Andy’s research forms a cornerstone of both the UNCTAD Creative Economy Report, and UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics.
The audience was made up of Ministers of trade and culture from members of the National Statistical offices of the CARIFORUM countries i.e. Antigua & Barbuda; Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Dominica; Dominican Republic; Grenada; Guyana; Haiti; Jamaica; St. Kitts & Nevis; St. Lucia; St. Vincent & the Grenadines; Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
