
The symposium was organised by KAIST (Korea Advanced Institution of Science and Technology), one of the most prominent science universities in Korea. The theme was Internet, Society and Humanity, and a huge emphasis was put on the issue of social/political networking and internet communities.
Hye-Kyung’s talk ‘Anime fansubbing and manga scanlation: labour of love between fandom and copyright infringement’ was based on findings from her ongoing research in cultural consumers’ nonmarket production and distribution of culture.
